The main means of transport in Greece are: cars, ships, planes. From year to year, more and more roads and more perfect car models are built in Greece, thanks to which transport is faster and more comfortable. There are many tunnels in this country that allow you to quickly overcome the mountains without having to pass through them on winding mountain roads. Greece
is a country that draws its resources mainly from tourism, so transport plays a very important role here. People who want to explore this beautiful country often use buses and ships. Nearby hotels buy from nearby companies, so they use delivery trucks to deliver their products. Greece is a country where weather conditions are favorable for the cultivation of, among others, olives, kiwi, grapes, mandarins and oranges. Thanks to that, export is very developed here. Greece is mainly located on the Mediterranean Sea, so it has wide access to the sea route. This enables the transport of products to most countries around the world. Air transport also plays a big role here, in Greece, there is an airport in every major city.

Public transport in
large cities:

Public transport in Athens is well developed. Metro, buses, trolleybuses and trams run around the city and reach almost every
corner. The most popular means of transport is, of course, the metro. It allows you to get to all the most important places from the tourist’s point of view, and the trains run very often.

The public transport in Thessaloniki is a network of buses running on 75 lines. Bus ticket prices in Thessaloniki:

  • single trip – EUR 1
  • 70 minutes (one bus change allowed) – 1.2 EUR
  • 90 minutes (two bus changes allowed) – 1.5 EUR
  • 120 minutes (three bus changes allowed) – 2 EUR

Sea transport in Greece:

Greece has many islands and transports many products abroad by ships. Greek shipping Greece would not exist without shipping, it has always been a major component of the Greek economy. The maritime industry, right after tourism, brings the most income in this country. Also today, the Greek fleet is one of the largest in the world.

Summer and winter season:

Many buses serving tourist routes are divided into summer and winter timetables, both of which differ from each other. We should always check whether the distribution we found is forsure the distribution for a specific period of time. Some lines do not run at all in winter.

Trains:

Trains
are not a popular means of transport among Greeks, there are no crowds in the trains, and on some routes we will meet mainly tourists. And the railway route only supports transport between some large cities, or stops at the beginning of the planned route, e.g. in the case of trains to the Peloponnese, we will get to Patra in the north.
